About the Harvest Bed & Breakfast
The Harvest Bed and Breakfast is settled in a brick farm house built in the 1870’s by John and Catherine Ehninger, and is located at 2325 Portage Road, Niles Michigan. They purchased the property for $3,000.00 on January 18, 1872, originally known as the South 80 acres of John E. Adams farm. The original property was purchased by David Glaspey and his wife Charlotte from the United States Land Office on August 31, 1838 for the price of $950.00. As current owners (and innkeepers), we purchased the farm house in 2015 and have spent 2 years updating, remodeling and refurbishing the interior and exterior as well as built our inn keeping quarters as a barn style home. A delightful surprise was uncovering the original front door with glass transom intact.
Today the 6.5-acre property includes a quaint trail through the woods with a majestic white oak at the center, a pumpkin patch where we grow a variety of pumpkins to sell for a good will donation and giving 100% of the proceeds to the local food pantry as well as sugar pumpkins used to make The Harvest’s many pumpkin treats for guests, and several peaceful spots to rest, swing or picnic.
Whether staying the night or for a long get away weekend, we welcome you and hope to make your dining and rest experience memorable of all good things from the Harvest.
